Maha Kumbh is known as largest
religious gathering of people in the world. Kumbh Mela is organised
at four places in India Haridwar, Nasik, Ujjain, Allahabad. In Kumbh
mela millions of people gather to take a holy dip in holy water on
different places for this mega auspicious occasion. Kumbha is a
Sanskrit word for Pitcher, Its alos known as the Kalasha or the Ghat.
Kumbh Mela is celebrated after four years in India, Though at same
place it takes place after 12 years, The site of the Mahakumbh is
rotating between four pilgrimage places on 4 sacred rivers: at Kumbh
Mela Haridwar on the Ganges river, at Kumbh Mela Ujjain on the
Shipra, at Kumbh Mela Nasik on the Godavari, and at Kumbh Mela
Allahabad on the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna and
Sarasvati.
As we have already mentioned Kumbh mela takes place after 12 years
on same site, Each site’s Kumbh celebration is based on particular
zodiacal positions of the Sun, the Moon, and Jupiter, the holiest
time of Maha Kumbh occurring at the exact moment these zodiacal
conditions are fulfilled.

bank of River Ganges. Last time Kumbh Mela took place in Haridwar in
year 1999.
